One in three homeless Americans are Veterans. 10 years of war and a country that cannot care for them. A nation's shame.
I live in an area where I encounter these veterans begging on the streets every day. Lost in America, emotionally scarred, drug and alcohol problems, parts of their lives taken away in battle in ways we cannot understand. Broken in mind, body and spirit, and living on the streets. Where I walked my dog, I see their meager possessions, food and bedding stored away.
It is a tragedy that we cannot care for the veterans, when we spend close to 1 trillion dollars a year for the Military Industrial Complex, but cannot care for those men and women sent off to fight the wars.
In an election year that the wars did not even register, and on Veterans Day that the diaries posted have quickly scrolled off the creen.......
What does that say about us as a nation?
