Hey folks, let's open the betting window for when our Farce Advocate in the White House steps to the microphone and announces that the Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy will be permanent.
I'm setting the over/under at 12 days from today, that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
I think we can look at the health care debate for some clues. There it took the White House about 30 days to take the public option off the table - before negotiations had even begun.
This situation is a little bit different in that the discussion about making the tax cuts for the wealthy permanent has been going on since before the election. Given that the election was 10 days ago, and we've already had this signal from Axelrod, I'm setting the over/under mark at 12 days from now.
My guess is that Obama and Presidents Simpson, McConnell, Baucus, Bayh, and Boehner will show up at a press conference at the White House and make the announcement on the day before Thanksgiving. The political geniuses in the White House will probably think this a brilliant move since people will be talking about how Obama "gets it" over the holiday.
