I was getting dressed late Sunday morning to go out for a walk with my husband when the phone rang and he answered it.
I was still in the bedroom when I heard him yelling in the kitchen. I couldn't imagine who had called and why he was yelling into the phone.
I came out just as he finished and I asked him what was going on. It was a call from a man from a Republican Jewish Coalition (my husband considers any Jew or minority crazy for aligning with republics). The man asked him what he thought of the job Obama was doing. My husband isn't as wonky as I am but he pays attention to the news and politics and asks me what I've read on the political blogs on a daily basis and we discuss politics pretty much daily.
My husband told the guy that he thought Obama was doing a pretty good job considering the mess he's dealing with. The guy said something like really even when it comes to Israel?
That's when my husband let loose. The man said he didn't want to get into an argument and my husband said to the guy that he called our home and therefore he was going to listen. My husband told him that it was crazy that Jews or minorities should even consider being a republican. That republicans are intolerant and mean spirited. That they don't care about people and ruined the country.
My husband supports Israel but he doesn't believe in the neocon AIPAC view of Middle East policy. It doesn't work and isn't good for the US nor has it worked out that well for Israel. We aren't sure what the solution is but we support Obama and are willing to give him his shot at the peace process and wish him good luck because he's going to need it.
But the more I think about this call and the timing, I think it might be some kind of preemptive move due to Eric Cantor's meeting with Netanyahu.
We no longer belong to a synagogue so we wonder how we are on their list as we are registered Democrats. Have any other Kossacks received a call from the Republican Jewish Coalition regarding this administration's Israel policy?
