Today the Republican party has been rightly blamed for killing the extension of unemployment benefits to millions of unemployed American Citizens. Fed up with my state contingent of republicans role in this, I am asking that Californians call our very large contingent of tyrannical Republicans and take aim at them for killing benefits to these families and individuals and, doing so just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I would just add that these representatives also take taxpayer dollars for their income and health benefits. We have nineteen Republican Representatives in the US House of Representatives and as Californians we can and should fight back against actions that are heartless and cruel and will imperil economic recovery. State by state we can use our pitchforks against a minority party. In California republican voters are out numbered by democratic voters. Put the pitchforks in hand and make them feel the pain of going hungry as the holidays approach.
Republicans are to blame
At 11:29 am today the San Francisco Chronicle reported the news that Republicans were responsible for the latest failure to get unemployment benefits extended. And it noted this:
Republicans didn't pay any political price for stalling efforts earlier this year to extend jobless benefits that provide critical help to the unemployed — including a seven-week stretch over the summer when jobless benefits were a piece of a failed Democratic tax and jobs bill.
But allowing benefits to expire in the holiday season may draw negative attention to Republicans, especially when measured against their insistence that tax cuts for upper-income taxpayers not be allowed to expire.
"We have never cut off benefits for out-of-work Americans where the unemployment rates have been this high," said Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash. "Without this extension, temporary federal extended benefits will shut down ... denying benefits to two million of our fellow citizens over the holiday season."
In the San Jose area, we have 12.4 percent unemployment. But account for those forced to take part time work, low paid jobs, and giving up in complete despair the actual number is 22%. In California alone 411,000 will lose their benefits according to this LATimes editorial
And noted in the LA Times editorial passing unemployment benefits extension for millions of unemployed Americans is helpful to our economic survival.
As economists at the Congressional Budget Office and elsewhere have noted, providing unemployment benefits is a particularly effective economic stimulus because idled workers are likely to spend their benefits rather than save them. According to one study, that spending could support nearly half a million jobs.
The downturn in the economy has been so severe that even the extended benefits haven't bought enough time for many Americans to find work. Four million people are expected to have exhausted their extended benefits by April; with so many cash-starved consumers, spending could fall again next year and dampen the recovery.
California has 19 Republican representatives to call and raise hell with for hurting 411,000 Californians and millions American citizens. Its just one group but a large group. Its time to take sides in the class war and and pull out the pitchforks. Start with California, my state. The list of Republicans in our state is at the link below.
