So it looks like the media is going to help Sarah Palin run for President in 2012. And yes, they will promote her lies, racebaiting, and do anything necessary to help her win the WH. They have basically started campaigning for her, as I found out this evening.
I just happened to catch a glimpse of this evening's ABC world news in which there was a 3-minute segment on Sarah Palin's New Book. The segment begins with an introductory opening showing scenes from Palin's reality TV show in Alaska and her daughter's stint on DWTS, followed by a positive commentary from columnist Ron Brownstein:
"I think Sarah Palin is creating an entirely new route for communicating with the American public and for building a constituency."
As the ABC reporter cheerfully proclaimed: "Sarah Palin is EVERYWHERE!"
Then the reporter went on to specifically pick out her attacks on the Obamas, first with an excerpt about President Obama,
"President Obama has a stark lack of faith in the American People."
followed immediately by her attacks on the First lady.
Instead of simply reporting what Palin said about the Firt Lady's remarks about being proud of her country for the first time in her adult life, ABC News took the liberties to replay the edited clip, as it was done during the presidential campaign, without providing the full context of Michelle Obama's words. Of course, no counter-argument or objective assessment of the veracity of this comment is provided. After showing the edited clip, ABC goes on to immediately report and provide (on screen) an excerpt from the book:
"I guess this shouldn't surprise us since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of Reverend Jeremiah Wright's Church, listening to his rants against America and White people."
.
No counter comment from the reporter about how this narrative was used to smear the Obamas in 2008, and how it was perceived by the American public in general. To cover their asses so as to not make it obvious what they are trying to do, the ABC reporter quickly shows a brief clip from JFK (while talking over him), with an excerpt from Palin that "JFK seemed to want to run away from religion."
The ABC News reporters allowed this Palin book drivel to go unchallenged. After watching that segment, I felt that the ABC News reporters truly wanted viewers to believe excerpt that they showed. They simply moved on to show another ridiculously edited clip of Joe Biden supposedly implying that Palin could beat Barack Obama.
After basically giving her book sales a ringing endorsement, they then report a poll with 67% of the American public believing that Palin is not qualified to President. I'm not sure whether they were trying to call out the American people for being so dumb to have any doubts about Palin, after they piled on compliment after compliment on her huge "accomplishments." But I wouldn't be surprised if those poll numbers of dissaproval gradually go down as 2011 and 2012 come and go, thanks to the media.
I had to ask myself a question: If Barack Obama in 2007 had signaled his intention to run for President by writing books that were riddled with anti-Bush propaganda and smears about the then first lady Laura Bush, would MSM outlets like ABC news be so enthusiastically reporting about it - with no counter from the other side, or objective assessment of the credibility of the excerpts in the book?
