America needs a return to militancy. We need marchers in the streets blocking traffic. We need to do what the French did recently or the British. Even better would be a general strike for a couple of days -- everyone just stops work for two days, bringing the entire country to a screeching halt. Then we go back, having sent a message to the entrenched powers.
We've tried elections, but the limited choices given to us by the two big parties, together with corporate influence on elected officials, makes voting by itself futile. The Obama administration is perhaps marginally better than its predecessor, but we need real change, real reform. We cannot go on with 1% of the people taking more and more of the wealth we create. And the only way the politicians are going to make the change happen that we need is if we make a whole lot of noise so that they have no choice but to notice.
That's the next step. There's a gradation of steps from voting to revolution. We've tried voting. Now we need to take a step towards revolution. I believe reform, real reform, will be enacted before we take the last step on that road. But it will not if we never take the first one.
