I'd like to cite a great piece that was posted in the Baltimore Sun

I thought the guy we elected was a grown up, obviously he needed to do a better job of reminding us unruly kids of what is needed to keep this house in harmony.
Perhaps it comes down to science fiction and the expectation that we would all be in flying cars right now. Perhaps the problem is that too many of us were asleep in 9th Grade Civics when it was discussed what the taxes we pay actually do for all of us. Maybe these folks need to be reminded that while we're paying the lowest taxes in generations, the cost of health care has risen exponentially since the 1950's. Over the last decade we haven't seen our incomes rise, yet the percentages that we pay on our credit card debt and the "overhead" costs going to insurance companies keeps increasing so that there is decidedly less banging for our bucks going on.
I may not be religious but I bought into the whole great society thang, where we all pay for certain services so that we may all enjoy those services that are for the benefit of all instead of trusting that God in his/her heaven above would smile down upon me and ease my path through this life. There is opportunity available to all who have the wherewithal to seize it, that is the founding concept that is the bedrock of my own faith in my country. That oppostunity itself was made available via public education and/or after serving the country in some capacity (as a soldier or a volunteer). This would offer you a chance to better yourself by learning a better trade or skill set that would allow you to achieve the American ideal of owning your own property and enjoying the fruits of one's labours along the way. Hell, you might even have something left over as a legacy to pass on down through the generations.
That's it, all we wanted is a chance, a chance to make our own choices and a chance to succeed by our own devices, be it by the sweat of our brow or the knowledge and skills that we acquired through learning. Apparently we have amongst us, a group of folks that don't believe that opportunity should be avialable to all. That merit is no measuring stick for advancement and that there is only a finite amount of success is available to be acquired as if its some zero sum concept.
What I'm saying is that despite the eloquence of our current President, he needs to sit down and tell folks the simple truth, in small words if necessary. This country takes hard work and harder choices, yet we thrive on it as a whole. You say you want jobs, fine, we'll give you jobs programs, just tell the folks that you elected to work together to get things functioning again. You say that the defecit is too big, then fine, you can live without the tax cuts proposed, because nothing kills a defect faster than taxes being collected and applied to the outstanding debt. You can't have both, that's what the Republicans have been feeding you a steady diet of for the past decade, it's time to either trim the fat or get to work, you get to pick which, but you can't pick both and anyone telling you smething different is obviously selling something.
