Here's a letter to the editor submitted to my local newspaper today, in case anyone is interested (For those who may think it's "too early" to start holding Republicans accountable, since they haven't taken office yet, just remember: Republicans have not given Democrats any kind of a "honeymoon" after Democrats won Congress and the White House, so why should we "play nice" with filth politicians like them?)
Dear Editor:
It’s amazing how truly arrogant professional politicians are.
Just days after the American people decided to "throw the bums out" and put Republicans in control the House of Representatives, those very same Republicans began immediately to break their promises of more transparency, balancing the budget and letting the "will of the people" be done.
Within two weeks following the elections, Republicans announced the following:
a) They plan to abolish the House Office of Congressional Ethics;
they’ve even indicated that if public outrage does not allow them to abolish it outright, they plan to get rid of it by "defunding" it (talk about the ultimate, cynical dishonesty and deception). Wow. The arrogance knows no bounds.
b) After claiming they want "balanced budgets" (despite that most of these very same folks are the ones who actually gave us the worst deficits in American history), they announced that one of their top priorities will be to...spend more than $700 billion on tax cuts for the rich without paying for it.
c) Within days of being elected to the majority, Republicans announced that, of all of the priorities facing this country, one of their main goals will be to use (or is it misuse?) their newfound power to "investigate" the Obama administration, signaling a willingness to spend whatever they want on said investigations, regardless of how much they may add to the deficits they decry. So...instead of doing the will of the people, Republicans have almost immediately started out their tenure promising to...misuse their power and taxpayers’ money in a partisan vendetta instead of solving problems.
Abuse of power. Misuse of their mandate. Reneging on their campaign promises. Less than two weeks after lying their way to power. Sounds to me like the same old corrupt Republican mis-leadership that we got rid of just four short years ago.
It will be interesting to see if Ann Marie Buerkle has as little regard for the people of this district as the rest of her corrupt party leaders. Come on, Ms. Buerkle, please tell us what you think about these outrages planned by your party leadership. Your answers (or lack thereof) will be very telling.
