The waning days of the 111th Congress look like they'll be spent like most of the rest of the 111th -- on suspensions. Twenty-two more post office namings and National Puppy Whiskers Days measures. Did I mention that unemployment benefits expire today? I guess I'd better not.
The Senate goes back to work on the bill they thought they were going to finish yesterday. That should leave plenty of time for major nuclear arms reduction treaties, unemployment, taxes and funding the entire federal government. So that's good. Maybe that'll come up at the party caucus meetings today, along with some discussion of whether it's maybe time to do something about Senate procedure that leaves them in the position of having four days left in the Congress, and still stuck on a food safety bill -- food safety! -- when they also need to, you know, deal with funding and running the rest of the federal government and stuff.
Then at 4pm, Senator Dodd will give his farewell address. Hopefully, it won't be about how they shouldn't change anything. Because that's maybe part of the reason why this is a farewell address, and why there will likely be several more given this week. But perhaps I overstate the case.
