So I would like to do something; and its keep asking "John Boehner, Where's My Job?"
It wasn’t until the 2008 General Election that I became involved in politics. I have always been a Democrat all the way back to my first opportunity to vote in 1976 when I voted for Jimmy Carter. But the 2008 election appeared to be so significant I worked with the MoveOn New York 3rd Congressional District Committee as a Chairperson. Unfortunately our District is the last stronghold of the Republican Party in Nassau County, New York and we have Peter King as our representative. Locally, we had no chance to replace him since the local Democrats never put any money behind a candidate but we knew we could make an impact in the presidential election. It was exciting, hard work, fun, and frustrating but worth it all when Barack Obama was elected as our 44th President in November 2008.
However, during the campaign I was also a victim of the Republican policies of the Bush Administration as my husband lost his job of 23 years and continued to be unemployed for two and a half years. I chronicled my story on Daily Kos and was fortunate to have my diary featured here in the "Open Thread and Diary Rescue Section."
Since the outcome of the 2010 mid-term elections I am angry with the results knowing one of the causes was the rhetoric spread by the Republicans and their allies concerning the lack of progress by President Obama. I did wish the Democrats had been able to more be vocal on the accomplishments that were made but, they were not and we all will suffer the consequences in the years ahead.
I’ve become extremely tired of the Republican influence on this country:
- the gridlock imposed on the 111th Congress by their use of the filibuster to kill more than 100 of Obama's proposals;
- tired of hearing about Reagan’s belief that the government is not the solution to all problems rather that government is the problem itself;
- the mess from the Republican’s efforts in the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, the shipping industry, banks and commercial aviation;
- seeing the rich keep getting richer, with the top 0.1 percent of income earners making more money than the 120 million people at the bottom of the income scale;
- that tax cuts are the solution to everything;
- the hate filled rhetoric of the extreme right and the Tea Party;
- the influence of the Citizens United ruling and how it has taken away our democratic votes;
- and the result of Republican policies giving us the worst economy and state of unemployment in 75 years.
So I’m one person but I want to try my best to hold the Republicans responsible now. For two years they did nothing to help us. Now they rule the House so it’s time for them to put up or shut up. Let’s see what they can do to help Middle America with their delusions about tax cuts creating jobs. I guess no one has told them it didn’t work during the Bush years.
So I want to start a grassroots effort to keep pressure on the expected to be elected new Speaker of the House John Boehner. Let’s see him cry some tears for the millions of Americans without jobs who are losing everything. I’m going to try and would like your help.
We all know there will be gridlock for the next two years and the Republicans have no plan to do anything but pontificate about how great they are and how their ideas are best. Yet in reality, I do believe they will not be able to create any job programs. So my objective is to put public pressue on them to illustrate they are doing nothing. Hopefully during these next two years President Obama will develop a real jobs program that will pass and help Americans.
I’ve started a website it’s a work-in-progress aimed to get people involved in various efforts such as the one started through Facebook of faxing Boehner asking "Where’s My Job". Hopefully I can encourage people to do Letters to the Editors campaigns about the Republicans lack of helping ‘real’ Americans; email campaigns to pressure them; and I also will have information on job resources for those who need our help.
My first ‘action’ is a petition to be sent to Boehner when he is elected Speaker. I hope you will sign this petition and continue to help in the future and keep saying "John Boehner, Where’s my job".
Thanks.
