So I have a music mix that I made during the Bush years, that I call We Can Make It Through This. I think it needs updating - help me out?
The opening song -- if you know me, you know what's coming -- Pride (In The Name of Love) by U2
then Keb Mo's version of Wake Up Everybody, which I can't find on youtube, so here's the Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes from 1975
then World on Fire by Sarah McLachlan
followed by Peace Train (I used the original Cat Stevens version - this is from 1976):
then Get Up Stand Up by Bob Marley, Won't Give In by the Finn Brothers, If You're Out There by John Legend, What's Going On (the Bono & Chris Martin version from an AIDS benefit), Hands by Jewel, Shaking the Tree by Peter Gabriel, Where is the Love by the Blackeyed Peas, Give a Little Bit - I used the GooGoo Dolls remake, Harvest For the World by the Isley Brothers, Till I Go Down by Jackson Browne, Gallileo by the Indigo Girls, The Rising by Bruce Springsteen, Love Train by the O'Jays, We Shall Be Free by Garth Brooks, Redemption Song by Bob Marley and a song that brings joy to my heart every time I hear it The Revolution Starts Now by Steve Earle:
and Lay Down (Candles in the Rain) - I used the remake with Meredith Brooks & Queen Latifah - I love her rap in this, "everybody grab an oar", indeed:
So -- know a happy or at least positive, upbeat song, with either a political message or that can be interpreted that way? After last Tuesday (especially here in Texas), I need some music to remind me to stay in the fight. There has to be more than 21 songs that meet this criteria - I thought about Fight the Power, but it seems more angry than positive. When you need to hear something positive, that reminds you to stay in the fight, what do you listen to?
