'Tis the season for many end - of - the - year/beginning of winter commemorations and celebrations. Another one, Hanukkah, begins tonight! So, from a "lonely Jew" in South Park, CO...
I wonder what euphemism Rep. Steve King would use for the "k word" on the floor of the House of Representatives? AND, Rep. King, if you're lurking about, THAT WAS NOT AN INVITATION!
Let's get SPARKy for the first night of Hanukkah! :D My Santa from last night got way WAY out of hand with a pub - talk about $hit faced! If you're looking for Hanukkah gifts for the Jewish person with everything, try here! If items from a government auction aren't good enough, how 'bout an aircraft carrier? AND, let it not be said that I'm incapable of compassion for those on "the other side of the aisle" because I'm giving a gift suggestion to Sue Lowden for all those chickens who were made homeless because she lost. :D Sue, if you're an Ed Wood fan, I suggest pink angora! :D
There are wonderful birthdays to celebrate today! Bette Midler is eligible for Medicare and Social Security because she's 65 today. Her versions of "In My Life" and "Come Rain or Come Shine" in For the Boys give me the chills - good chills! Woody Allen's been eligible for 10 years because he's 75 today! In my most humble of opinions, this movie is an absolute gut - splitting laugh riot & a must see. ;D
Nestor Carbonell is 43 today. Sure, he was in Lost, which I didn't watch, and was the mayor in Dark Knight, which I own. But, his work here is what I love the most!
That show was canceled WAY TOO SOON!!!!!!
Finally, Sarah Silverman is "turning 20 again" today! She "sparked" Matt Damon & filmed an ad for Barack Obama! This ad contains "language" that some might think would be inappropriate for the kiddies; that's your call! Ah...those were the days - so full of hope, pride, etc.
Let's Countdown...
Chris Hayes gets to sit in the big chair tonight! Well, how ‘bout that?! Oh Keith, you’re not suspended again, are you?! Maybe, he’s roasting chestnuts somewhere – or Phil Griffin’s nuts! :D
#5 "Grand Obstructionist Party" - The GOBP have put their whiney itchiness in writing; there will be no action ANYWHERE in the Senate on ANY ISSUE until GWB’s tax cuts get extended for the super – rich.
And, Mitchie even put the mother in the Congressional record, too; well, he learned that act from Rep. Steve King. If I were Rep. King, I’d sue Mitchie for copyright infringement; being a hateful boil on the butt of humanity is HIS sparkin’ job! Unemployment benefits extension? Nope. Repeal of DADT in getting the defense authorization bill passed? Nope. DREAM Act? Nope. Senator Reid did at least have the guts to call out the GOBP on the floor of the Senate, but his ineptitude as Senate Majority Leader enabled the GOBP to be the little angels they’ve been being! President Obama’s little tax cut and/or extension group met today and apparently got diddly poo accomplished. Speaker Pelosi – for a bit longer, anyway – really laid into the GOBP for the unemployment benefit inaction in connection to the tax break for the super rich. Rep. Steny Hoyer’s still insisting a tax cut extension for the middle class only is on the docket for tomorrow. Small Price to Pay Goldilocks thinks Dems are stalling. What – the – spark – ever...
Rep. Donna Edwards wants the vote to go on AND that unemployment benefits should be extended; she doesn’t want any Senate wheelin’ – dealin’ shenanigans! Rep. Edwards also basically told Harry Reid to ACT LIKE THE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER! It won’t happen, but one can dream, I guess. Hey! It’s "my guy" – operative word there being MY! ;D
Richard Wolffe’s not left for the Chicago burbs yet! It looks like he’s still in DC; he must have a damn early flight in the morning or something. The GOBP knows that running out the clock will work, and the Dems can get all righteous in calling out GOBP obstructionism, but Richard thinks that play will accomplish nothing except to provide a preview of the next 2 years. Yea, that sounds about right. He wants Dems to call the GOBP bluff! Senator Reid COULD bring up a middle class tax cut extension alone to the floor of the Senate?! $HIT! Won’t happen but $HIT! Richard also wants some Dem bluff calling out on the unemployment benefits shtick, too! He thinks the apparent inaction by this White House is their way of trying to get back "independent" voters. Well, it seems to me that "independent" voters change their minds at the drop of a hat. How much time, effort, and misery is going to be inflicted on this nation for a group of people that seem to lick their fingers, stick their wet fingers in the air, and vote? Richard also thinks this tactic is what independent voters want to see & hear. Won’t at least SOME of those voters think that all this bipartisanship failure just makes President Obama look like Charlie Brown & the GOBP look like Lucy yanking away the football again and again and again and again and...??
#4 "To Serve Man" AKA "Anything But Tax Hikes" - The deficit commission’s report came out today, but former Senator Alan Simpson already began ripping on those who dared to criticize the commission’s findings. Wow! He must have teh ESP or something! ;D Senator Simpson wants to cut taxes again but wants to gut Social Security. HOWEVER, the super rich might not be so thrilled with the idea to get rid of the mortgage exemption on properties over half a million dollars or on second homes or to tax capital gains like regular income. But, of course, the non – super rich will bear the greater burden because Jesus said that what you do for the most among us you also do for Me! What? Huh? He didn’t say that?! Really??!! I guess I better check that thing about the camel through the eye of a needle in connection to the rich going to heaven then, yes? ;D Previous GOBP administrations and GOBP – controlled Congresses were not named in today’s rap sheet, of course, because Congress is an all boys/girls club.
The report even said, after proposing yet lower tax rates on the super rich and for corporations,
Without reform, it is likely that U.S. competitiveness will continue to suffer.
200,000 government jobs should be eliminated because unemployment isn’t high enough; we must get back into double – digit unemployment as a nation again! Rep. Jan Schakowsky is not thrilled with the report. She’s on that lovely commission. There’s nothing in the report about job creation, but the ax for Social Security is being sharpened even though Social Security hacking will do jack $hit for reducing the deficit. Seniors get to pay more out of their pockets for Medicare, too! This report suggests cutting military pay & health care, too????!!! Wow, thanks for serving our country!
** A Chinese toddler hid in a dryer drum during a game of hide & seek and got stuck. AAAaaaWWWwww! Poor thing!! **
#3 "Wanted Julian Assange" AKA "Wanted" - The "right" is calling for Mr. Assange’s head and other vital organs on a platter for all the Wikileaks stuff because they want their own hot stacked Ukrainian nurses, damn it! Newtie Gingrich will settle for enemy combatant status & jail time for whatever amount of time. The usual sources are joining in the braying. I’m telling ya’; it’s all about Ukrainian nurses. Gov. Mike Huckabee wants the person responsible for sending the material to Wikileaks to be executed like Mel Gibson was at the end of Braveheart or something, I guess. GWB’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s sentence for outing a covert CIA agent, however, was an act of compassion. We might need a new street sign pretty soon!
SOD Robert Gates thinks all the brouhaha is bull pucky. Greg Mitchell is here to talk leaks & lack of or too much response thereof. Nothing released is going to endanger people’s lives; it might just embarrass the hell outta people.
#2 "Crisis (Not) Averted" - The foreclosure crisis just keeps rollin’ along. Those in charge of overseeing all this are about as effective at that gig as MMS was with BP/BS just before Deepwater Horizon. And, there was much rejoicing (?). AND, if unemployed people keep not getting their benefits or don’t find work, expect more foreclosures to be coming down the pike. Again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS! OK, I can’t listen to anymore of this; feel free to add more in comments.
#1 "Noah’s Park" AKA "Flood of Money" AKA "Sails Tax" - The Creation Museum wants their own theme park. There’s gonna be a big ‘ol ark with animals & everything; huh, that sounds like a zoo! State tax incentives are being sought, and they will probably be coming down the pike. Well, these citizens voted for {insert retching here} Rand Paul to be their Senator, too, so this news ain’t exactly a shock.
I’ve never been to that museum, and you couldn’t pay me enough to go there, but they HAVE TO HAVE a statue or SOMETHING to their patron saint – the mighty one who first demonstrated that man & dinosaur did indeed coexist. :D
Sam Seder drew the short straw to talk about this subject tonight. He said anyone who tried to bring suit to prevent tax money toward this effort would probably fail in court; I agree. So, let’s gather up all the Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, Flying Spaghetti Monsterites, etc. together because apparently Kentucky is the land of religious tolerance where ANYONE can build a religiously – themed park & get state money for it! YES!! I want a roller coaster with a climb in the shape of a crescent that goes through a giant Buddha head, and I want it NOW!!!!!!!
