Last month, I ran a poll, which over 500 people responded to, asking whether Obama should be primaried. Many commenters got nasty, but 27% said they wanted to primary Obama. 70% opposed primarying Obama.
I decided I'd re-visit the question periodically. Today, Obama caved, breaking his campaign promises to tax the wealthy.
Real Democrat Rep Anthony Weiner said, in response to the news "I think a lot of people are wondering why he doesn't fight for what he believes in a lot more. It seems like it goes from zero to fold in pretty fast time."
I think more and more of us are wondering if Obama actually believes in anything.
On my further left leaning website, OpEdnews.com, small by kos standards, but still, with close to 60,000 registered members, I ran a similar poll. The results were almost reversed-- of 302 respondents, 67% supported primarying Obama and 25% opposed primarying.
So, I'm running the poll again, to see if people's positions have changed at all.
In my first poll, I didn't say much, to keep it a clean poll. But I caught a lot of flack for not discussing a few things, so here we go.
1-How dare I have the temerity to suggest we primary Obama without suggesting a candidate.
Actually, I do have some ideas, but I don't think that having a candidate to suggest is necessary. If we built it, they will come. If the writing on the wall says, more and more, get the fuck out, Obama, or, sorry Barack, you ran a great campaign, but you're a failure as a president, then the opening and the opportunity will bring candidates out of the woodwork.
Still, I have my first choice. Elizabeth Warren is no politician. People say she's loyal to Obama. People say she won't run. I say she would be a kick ass candidate because she's not a politician. I don't want another member of congress as a candidate. We need someone who's shown she can lead and more, someone who has proven that she will fight for the middle class. Warren will win by a bigger margin that Obama did. She's not a progressive either, but I think she'll be the person she's been, not morph into a DLC, manchurian candidate who becomes someone who shocks tens of millions who voted for him.
2- Primarying Obama will hurt his chances and cost the Democrats the 2012 election, that Teddy Kennedy's primary effort was to blame for Jimmy Carter's defeat.. My take is different. I say he has no chance of winning. He keeps looking worse and worse. I say that discussing primarying him could lead to Obama taking the path of Lyndon Johnson, withdrawing as a candidate, especially if the pressure and the message are strong enough.
So have at the poll, at my message.
But this time, maybe the noble folks who deleted my tip jar comment will be a bit more considerate, since, at least last time, 27% of the folks on Dkos took my side. It'll be interesting to see what percentage of people still hanging in there with Barack the sell-out will still be hanging.
