So, I'm reading this great diary and comments section over in Joan McCarter's Front Page diary: No Help for 99ers in tax cut framework
It's a really great read.
And then, I find this comment:
When I think about these people (4+ / 0-)

all I can think of is the Iran hostage crisis and those yellow ribbons you saw everywhere. Probably dating myself here.
Dammit, I don't want those unemployed people forgotten and it sure does feel like they're hostages, but this time, it's to our government and the stock market.

So, I have an action item I'd like to discuss with you, below the fold...
As soon as I read Ophelia's comment, I was struck, like a bolt of lightening had zapped me.
It was one of those "ephiphany" moments.
We've discussed, ad nauseum, the failure of the Democrats on message control. These people have all of the great ideas, and none of the ability to convey it in language simple enough, and short enough, for it to appeal to the majority of voters.
We suck at it, as a group.
But we can do it right, if we have the right message - and a hook to get attention for it.
So, here's my action item proposal to the Daily Kos community.
Let's start a ♫♫ Tie a Yellow Ribbon ♫♫ campaign - for the 99er's.
Everyone who knows someone (or is someone) who is a 99er...
Tie a Yellow Ribbon on your car antenna, to your mailbox post.
Tack a Yellow Ribbon to your front door or hang it from your clapper.
UPDATE h/t to rogerdaddy - In addition to the Yellow Ribbon:
Everyone who knows someone (or is someone) who is a 99er Unemployed ...
Tie a Black Ribbon on your car antenna, to your mailbox post.
Tack a Black Ribbon to your front door or hang it from your clapper.
Do it this week.
When someone asks you what it's for, tell them:
Congress needs to RESCUE the 99er's and their families, from disaster.
Please call President Obama at (202) 456-1111 and tell him:
Let's SAVE some of our fellow citizens and their families this holiday season.
The Rich have enough. Let's help those who really need it.
UPDATE II
PvtJarHead says:
The yellow ribbon thing got co-opted by the war cheerleaders. Isn't that what those ribbon magnets on cars are supposed to represent?
I like the ribbon IDEA. I just think we need to pick a different color... perhaps grey?
I'm a 99er myself. My unemployment ran out just last week. Even if congress passed something tomorrow I highly doubt I would see any additional benefits until January. There are something like 2 million people that have exhausted their benefits who are struggling this Christmas.... Things are tough all over.
How about dKos Orange for the 99er's and White for the rest of the Unemployed? How about a poll? Ok, then, here ya go:
