In an enormous breakthrough for space travel, the first truly independent commercial entity has managed to successfully orbit and land a vehicle.
One of the most courageous moves Barack Obama has made has been to take on the space lobby and Nasa and push for the commercialization of space.
Now a major step has been taken in making that vision real. Space X has just successfully launched, orbited and landed its Falcon 9/Dragon vehicle.
We need a sustainable model to move forward with the effective use of space. Creation of a commercial infrastructure has the potential to dramatically lower costs and increase utilization--while at the same time getting bloated defense contractors out of the picture unless they're willing to compete in a new environment.
I'm surprised this hasn't already been posted on Kos. Sorry about the duplication if it has.
www.space.com seems to be one of the few places that's reporting on this development.
