For progressives, there is little to celebrate these days, as our President and heavily Democratic Congress have failed to deliver on the huge mandate they were handed in November 2008. So, we have a choice-
either we continue griping, or we begin to get pro-active and rally behind new leadership. Isn't it about time that we sent a message to Obama and the Democratic establishment that they aren't going to have our support next time around? For me, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the sort of plain-spoken sparkplug who could light a fire under the electorate. The guy is fearless, and he is a real game-changer, not another halfass moderate who wants to tinker around the edges of policy debates.
I fully expect to hear 97 different reasons why Bernie Sanders can't win the Presidency-- but consider that the GOP and the corporate press are taking Sarah Palin seriously, and all of a sudden a Bernie candidacy doesn't sound all that far-fetched. I have no interest in supporting another weak Democrat, and would love to put my energies behind someone we can believe in.
