Well, not in that way....
Instead, we are working to make clearer and simpler the various categories, and seek input from all who want to have a say.
I think that it's clear that the reason this concept was successful last year was the groundswell of grassroots support. With that said, I truly hope that this year, participation will be an even more collaborative effort than last year's series.
This concept was stated more succinctly by exmearden
an excellent idea and one that I hope continues each year. Hopefully with a lot of collaboration so that just a few aren't carrying the major load...
Come below for discussion about the minor changes in cats, and to vote in the poll on that topic.

• NOTE:
This year's nominations will begin around Dec 20, 2010, and continue past New Year's Day.
Voting should begin shortly thereafter.
For now we are still merely discussing logistics, as is clear to those who have actually read the diary.
:-)
• Too many/too few categories?
If so, which ones should be omitted?
Which ones should be broken into two?
I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the former is the issue, not the latter. We concurred that all FP cats should be nixed (there were only 2). That got us down to around 2 dozen cats.
Listed are the 8 cats that had either fewer nominations, or fewer votes than the more popular categories.
All polls use Flash; you will need a Flash-enabled device to vote.
The poll here will allow for multiple votes, so let's see how this trial run goes for culling a few of the cats that can be more easily combined with others.
Voting for a category signifies that you want to keep it.
Only vote for "All categories SHOULD REMAIN" if you also sign up to post a diary or two. This cannot be gamed. If only 1 person signs up, that choice gets only 1 vote. Simple.
Poll closes in 9 days (Dec. 18th)

Miniseries* (h/t RLMiller)
Note: The Miniseries idea was proposed after discussion about short-term vs. long-term series in the previous diary. It seemed like a very simple fix to a complex issue. Although adding any cats in anathema to the goal of streamlining this process, avoiding possible conflict is another important goal.
Do most of you agree this is a simple fix to that possible SNAFU?
Barring any further expansion, this new list marks a 25% reduction in the number of cats. Considering the proposed runoff idea, we will still likely end up voting even more than last year, so this modest reduction in initial cats seems essential to make this process manageable for both the organizers and the voters alike.
We could further contract the # cats by also absorbing the current top 3 vote-recipients in the poll, despite the fact that "OMIT ALL" leads by a whopping margin.
Those cats are-
Diary Series: Environmental
Best Teaching Diary
Best Investigative Diary
With the prospect of these items having a chance to go against other unrelated topics in other cats, it actually might provide some more drama. Too many of last year's winners were freaking landslides. More competition, especially after the 1st round of runoffs, will make this more of a nail-biter, and less of a shnooze, don't ya think?
