Good morning again and welcome to another gathering of the Kossaks who work on their own houses when they are not busy lurking, working or being super-duper activists.
Face it: it is about impossible to plot Crashing somebody's Gates when the toilet won't stop gurgling in the background, and not all of us grew up in a house that was being constantly repaired and remodeled by DIY-type parents.
So we hang out here and bullshit each other and gladly offer encouragement and advice to those who show up looking for it. For years now, an ad hoc cadre of construction professionals and gifted amateurs has joined me in offering explanations on how things work and advice about keeping them working yourself or when to call in a pro.
This is an Empowerment Zone.
This week it also a snow zone, as winter came shuffling back onto our stage after taking a time out. 8 inches isn't a big snow, but it is enough to cause trouble. Portions of both nearby freeways, I-25 and I-40 were closed yesterday.
We get to see this in exquisite detail through a network of webcams the NM State Highway Dept has installed that can be accessed from the website nmroads. Last year they had a few of them up and they were great, but this year they have really gone whole hog and put up literally dozens more of them. Go check it out. Your state probably is also working on this for your area.
Right now snow covers the flagstone paving we're putting in under the new portal, but we'll be able to keep working on that soon, once the sun shows up again and melts it away.
Thanks for dropping in. We hope you enjoy the conversation and maybe we can even help you out with something.
