Many of you have met my parents before, they are 87 and 89 and still independent, to a degree. Mom still drives, Oh My God In Heaven, in fact received her new license last April. Dad gave it up after two wrecks resulting in totalled cars. They couldn't afford the insurance rates any more, and let me tell you, I pray every day that Mom runs into no one.
But this is about Christmas preparations... it's enough to make me want to convert to Judaism... sort of...
Below the fold you will find a Christmas story, a little different from what you are used to.
Back it up to early November...
Mom says..." We have got to get over to New River Pottery and get those cookie tins that are going for a buck apiece."
Says me... "Oh Mom, they have a ton of those... we'll get them in a day or so."
"No, no!" Says the Momma Duck. "They will run out of them."
"Okey dokey Mom, let's go get how ever many we need. When do you want to go?" I figured I'd just keep her happy and quiet. Sigh....
"Now" says the Mom. They won't be there next week!"
"K"... I'll pick you up in the morning.....
Next day we're in the store, doing bidness, roaming around with our carts, finding the deals... Aha! Mom found the tins! Woohoo! They are still there! Whoda thunk it They still have 'em? Woot! Mom loaded up on them. I guess she got like elebenty seven of them. Praise God.
Fast forward to yesterday when I took the ingredients for "Reindeer Food" to Mom's house. We spent two hours making that stuff and she was so happy... she had lots of "tins" to fill for her church friends, folks she was seeing today for her church's Christmas lunch, and it was a success for her. She is 89 years old, still drives, still cleans her home, bakes, Christmas shops, worries about it all and is my Mom. I am so proud of her and would die happy to be like her, some day.
