Welcome to our Netroots for the Troops, Inc. Holiday Fundraiser: Twelve Days of Christmas Blog!
Netroots for the Troops is a DK tradition. We raise funds each year to create and send care packages to our troops. There’s something magical about receiving a care package. Your donation will help us create and ship packages full of useful and fun things to our soldiers overseas. Boxes will be packaged next summer at Netroots Nation. More on how to donate below.
In the afterglow of the demise of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, don't forget that the troops still need us. And who woudn't love a care package?
With that in mind, this first clip has the Hot Dancing Women in Uniform that I promised this morning in Cheers and Jeers!
Well, you'd be hot, too, if you were dancing like that in a santa suit.

Women have always had to balance a lot in their lives -- home, family, education, career. When the career is in the military, I believe that the women who chose to serve their country must always be on their toes.
These clips are from the ballet, "The Red Detachment of Women," and I'm using it just for the imagery of the women soldiers, not for its place in the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Many ballet lovers ignore the political overtones and enjoy it just for the dance itself. It's also an important part of United States history -- it is the ballet that was seen by President Nixon during his historic visit to China in 1972.
In this next scene, I imagine a woman -- perhaps from Afghanistan -- dancing with the joy of freedom after being rescued from oppression and hunger. (Though one has to ignore the fact that she sees the Chinese flag as a symbol of her freedom!) It still represents our mission: giving women and men humanitarian aid, and, more importantly, their own country back from the warlords and despots.
When I watch these, I see more than Nine, or any number of, Ladies Dancing. I see the representation of all woman who have selected to serve their country -- the sacrifice, the dedication, the camaraderie, and the loneliness. Won't you remember them (and the men, of course) with a gift to Netroots for the Troops?
