Hi all,
I don't usually post material here, but could not resist after discovering an article that struck me as totally outrageous. As a non-expert, I would be eager to hear from those in the know whether I am correctly interpreting the excerpt below (emphasis mine):
If Unocal Corp. accepts an $18.5 billion takeover by China's CNOOC Ltd. the deal's fate may hinge on how a secretive U.S. review panel defines "national security," experts said on Friday.
"The primary question for this transaction is whether they consider energy security to be a national-security issue," said Michael Wessel, a Democrat and a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
Wessel said the Bush administration, so far, had restricted the definition of national security.
WTF? RESTRICTED THE DEFINITION OF NATIONAL SECURITY? Follow me past the flip...
This passage seems to imply that the Bush administration has been reluctant to place energy security under the purview of our national security apparatus. Who on earth could this benefit apart from foreign energy interests? Am I wrong? I always viewed energy security as a defining element of national security. Is it my niavete, or am I missing something here?
If not, the Bush administration has blatantly placed the interest of foreign oil companies over our national security and we need to "brandish" that steel right up their ass.
