I'd been poking around on YouTube, listening to weird stuff with dulcimers and banjos, and I decided I'd like some Grateful Dead.
It wasn't two minutes later that this tweet turned up regarding Tom Coburn's carefully reasoned oppposition to the U.C. Santa Cruz Grateful Dead archives.
If you hippies weren't pissed before, now might be the time ...
The full text of the HuffPo article is right here but this is all you need to know:
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) is not grateful for the University of California-Santa Cruz's digital archive of Deadhead memorabilia.
The archive, which contains thousands of Grateful Dead-related pictures, documents and paraphernalia, was completed with the help of a $615,000 federal grant -- and comes in at No. 4 on Coburn's list of the most wasteful government spending projects of 2010.
It would serve the man right if someone slipped a certain sort of sugar cube into his coffee half an hour before he was due to make a floor speech.
You can counter this mean spirited little troll of a man by posting comments of YouTube videos with your favorite Grateful Dead songs in them.
This is The Dead, not the Grateful Dead, but I happened to be sitting just to the left of where this was filmed :-) :-) :-)
