This is supposed to be a mainstream site, an important site: but one thing better happen right now if this site wants to keep its importance and relevance
We all, unanimously, have to become pacifists. We HAVE to be 100% against the war. and I mean everybody on this fucking site, on kos. please don't argue semantics; you know what I mean. We have to be completely against war in general and against the war in Afghanistan in particular.
Otherwise, we're just pissing in the wind. We're wasting time, just like the old Berkeley leftists arguing about procedure in the back room of a beatnik bookstore while the party sinks into oblivion.
Here's why the money for social causes such as education, health, infrastructure and alternative energy is missing; here's why we're losing our country; and here's why this site, a site that I have loved for years, is in danger of becoming irrelevant.
There's tired arguing about Obama, there's some interesting articles, but there's not much fire about what really counts; the fact that the USA spends more on so-called 'defense' than all other countries combined, and that's SICK, and it's a mortal sickness, one that is going to kill us, the country we love, and all the people that we love as well.
Education, infrastructure, alternative energy, health care, the arts, any and all social progress, all sacrificed to feed this monster that can only kill, only ruin. Don't fool yourselves; soldiers may do humanitarian work, but their main tool is still A GUN. A soldier's main task is destruction.
1 trillion a year.
And then there's the lives. The lives lost, the lives wasted, the real lack of care for veterans, those who gave themselves for their country and now wander the street homeless, and so many more instances of waste; waste of life, waste of energy, waste of money.
Does anyone here really feel that they're for that? ANYONE?
And if you're not for that, why not make your voice be known? I certainly want to make my voice be known as wanting to stop this war immediately, and I would like everybody here to make a commitment to see this war stopped, because otherwise it won't be.
Elect better democrats indeed; whatever democrats we manage to elect will quickly be bought by the machine unless we hold their feet to the fire. Most of them voted for this war that's been going on almost 10 years, and they haven't yet come out against it in a meaningful way.
And they won't, unless we tell them to, as we did during Vietnam. At that time, public opinion against the war caused the passage of the Case-Church act, which defunded it. THAT'S the real reason that Vietnam was brought to a halt. It wasn't altruistic politicians, because there aren't any. It was people like you and me. And we can't do that unless we are united, and I haven't seen that yet on this site, or in this country.
