Last night, I watched "PATH TO WAR", a movie by HBO FILMS that layed out how we were led to the hell of the VIETNAM WAR, and undermined the GREAT SOCIETY. Now I know it's a dramatization of what happened, but I can believe it.
What shocked me the most is how true the saying ""He who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it." LBJ's words:
"..In the fight for freedom the american people have learned that retreat does not bring safety and weakness does not bring peace."
"we fight for the principle of self-determination, the people should be able to choose their own course, choose it in free election, without violence, without terror, without fear"
SOUND FAMILIAR?
The Neo-Cons could easily be replaced by ROBERT MCNAMARA & other defense officials. Both who had grand theories about how force would be able to change people and regions, and then watch it blow up in their face when it doesn't. Both believed that the enemy would fold under pressure, and then be too stuborn or selfish to admit that they were wrong, and then push harder for more troops--to win.
Will Bush walk down the same path Johnson did? Will he think if he puts a few more troops in, bomb a few more targets, it can bring the end?
