Harold Ford of Tennessee, Merrill Lynch, the DLC, NBC and the Park Avenue Regency has been campaigning against the excellent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for six weeks now, and he remains a pathetic loser in the Siena poll.
According to the new poll, Gillibrand leads Ford by 42-16, slightly better than the 41-17 margin in last month's poll.
Ford floundering, below.
Ford's campaign, launched with a New York Times puff piece on Jan. 6, has been the beneficiary of millions worth of free media, especially in NYC newspapers which all essentially endorsed him, gave him op-eds, and covered his every move.
Most coverage has been puffy, but Ford can't help but toss in details like the helicopter visit to Staten Island and his need for pedicures that are more memorable than the puff stuff.
Ford has taken leave from his Merrill Lynch schmoozing job to campaign full-time -- touring the state, meeting with political leaders, hiring staff, sending out nasty negative press releases about Gillibrand, etc.
And it's all been for nought.
The idea of Ford as a NY Senator never had much appeal beyond his rich friends in Manhattan, and this poll confirms that.
