Add two more to the growing list: Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Tim Johnson (SD). This now makes 22 senators who have signed Sen. Michael Bennet's (D-CO) letter urging leadership to pass the public option via reconciliation.
This is of course encouraging, but they are still far short of the fifty needed. Perhaps some phone calls are needed. See below.
Talking Points Memo is doing an excellent job of keeping a running tally. Here is the list to date:
Debbie Stabenow (MI)
Tim Johnson (SD)
Robert Menendez (NJ)
Arlen Specter (PA)
Jeanne Shaheen (NH)
Chuck Schumer (NY)
Frank Lautenberg (NJ)
Barbara Mikulski (MD)
Bernie Sanders (VT)
Al Franken (MN)
Patrick Leahy (VT)
John Kerry (MA)
Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)
Dianne Feinstein (CA)
Roland Burris (IL)
Barbara Boxer (CA)
Jack Reed (RI)
Tom Udall (NM)
The original signatories:
Michael Bennet (CO)
Sherrod Brown (OH)
Kirsten Gillibrand (NY)
Jeff Merkley (OR)
Earlier today, math4barack did an action diary containing contact info for all the Senators who have not yet signed the letter. I urge you to visit that diary if you haven't already.
22 down, 23 28 (perhaps math4barack can help me with my math) to go. I was skeptical to this point, but I'm beginning to think there's actually a chance of this happening.
