Welcome to today's Daily kOSCARs™ diary.
This is the second diary in a potential series.
The 1st can be found here, wherein I introduced the concept:
if there is so much hullabaloo about the things people perceive to be the worst, why not also give props to the best?
My idea is to have several diaries to determine the categories and nominees, culminating with an awards diary around the end of the month of February.
The 2nd diary asked about what categories people would like to see.
___
BREAKING!: Kos himself seems to endorse the idea:
I love it when the community (4+ / 0-)
self-organizes around a common purpose.
Below the fold is a list of categories that needs to be finalized before we can begin nominations. At very least, please take the time to vote in the poll.
After we determine a good array of categories, we can get to the fun part: Deciding which diaries & authors should be recognized. After we have a list of nominations, the awards can at last be voted upon.
So far, no one has objected to the most basic and obvious categories, so I think we can draw a line at the end of this list:
- Diary of the Year
- Diarist of the Year
- Front Page Editor of the Year
4. Front Page Featured Writer of the Year
- Best Snark Diary
Those seem to me to be the only "slam dunks".
The remaining ideas can all be "on the bubble to a degree, but based upon previous comments (and the recommends they received), I'll put them here roughly in the order t seems (at this stage) that people support including them as additional categories.
- Best Action Diary
- Best non-political diary
- Hunter Award for Rant of the Year
- Best good works diary*
5. Best diary by an elected official
- Comment of the Year
- Favorite Commenter
8. Best original media submission
- Best Investigative Diary
- Best candidate diary
- Best Teaching Diary
- Best Visual Diary - Photo or Video
13. Best Rescued Diary
14. Best poll
- Heartstrings Award for Most touching diary
* "Best good works diary" explained by the submitter(mamabigdog) This would be for efforts like Shelter Boxes, or other disaster relief, or for the CA wildfires diaries, or the healing quilt diaries.
At this stage I've already posted 2 diaries with ideas for new categories, so unless there is a mega-super homerun that no one mentioned yet, consider the ideas for new categories closed.
Instead, if you have any great names for the above categories already listed, we can perhaps change their names at this point.
Conveniently, polls have 15 voting slots (I really didn't grab that number intentionally!) So here's the deal: We are voting on the least appealing category.
Which of these makes the number of categories too large?
Are any of these superfluous?
Where is the navel-gazing just too much to bear?
Clear enough?
I figured in the era of "reality TV" where people are voted off this and that show it's not hard to understand.
Note: I'm likely to omit at least the top 3 or 4 vote-getters. And there is no Pie for a reason. Twenty categories is way too much. We need to get this thing done before the Mayan calendar ends in 2012.
Thanks for your input.

Thanks for all the votes!
The mob has spoken, and we have cut down the list by five; YAY!
If you are voting now, voting for anything that has been crossed out will be akin to a Pie vote.
I'd love to whittle down our numbers a bit more due to one or 2 new ideas from the comments.
Keep the votes coming!
