Today it has become apparent to me that progressives LOST the elections of 2008.
I know, I know. Get out the tar and feathers, this guy has dared to speak his mind about our beloved democrat leaders! Back Satan! The power of Barack Obama compels thee!
It's sad, and it's the furthest thing from what I personally believed a year ago. But it's true.
With the failure of our supposed "leaders" to advance the progressive policies of the left, and recent decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, I have found it necessary to put forth what seems to me to be the "New" Democrat Party.
Fair warning, this diary is more frustrated rant of a pissed off, disillusioned progressive liberal than anything else.
There was a time I thought that elected officials ( at least on the left ) were supposed to represent and advance the policies of the people who voted for them. After watching and listening to the farce-laced spectacle that has called itself the Democrat Party for the last year, I must admit to myself that this is no longer the case.
The new so-called "Democrat" is more concerned with not rocking the boat and not offending possible corporate sponsors, than with carrying out the wishes of the people that elected them to office. With the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision handing over the electoral process to Corporate America, the era of "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people", no longer exists. We are just now starting to see the sorry preview of things to come.
In the very near future, I believe the only difference between the republican party and the democrat party is which corporate sponsors are calling the shots and paying the bills. If "elected" ( appointed ) officials pay lip service to the real needs of the American People, it will only be a facade, designed to string the opposing political ideologies along with the illusion of even a representative democracy.
The new Democrat will be nothing more than a corporatist wearing a mask and touting progressive slogans, all the while taking his instructions and scripts from the corporate oligarchy he or she represents. Maybe, if we are very lucky, a little "meat" will be thrown out as scraps to keep those on the left in line, or at least at each others throats.
It is my fervent belief that if John F. Kennedy could see whats happened to what was once the Party of the People, he'd be spinning in his grave.
