Keep in my mind that employment is a more reliable measure as compare to unemployment (you can play with the number of people "actively" looking jobs.)
I don't think that Democrats will have any trouble winning MI - after the collapse of manuf. industry there. The same in OH (employment has decreased by 3 % btw 2001-2003 and another 1% in the last 12 months). NM is not as bad as it looks: non-farm employment has increased by 3.3% during Bush era and by 1.5% in the last 12 months. Other key states: PA and WV are stagnant (no employment growth in the last 12 months despite drop in unemployment - see above), FL is above the average (thanks to booming service sector), NV even better than FL; WI, MN, NH, and IO stable in 2003 (despite 2% drop in employment in 2001 and 2002).
