THIS IS an update to my earlier diary,
HSUS Sending Emergency Teams for Animals & People.
Please forward to anyone you know who'd like to help this group or lives near them and can transport supplies. This is from the wildlife rehab Yahoo list I'm on ... what a group of incredible people:
Here is the address that Lloyd has left for donations of food, supplies, and medicine for rehabbers in need of emergency help.
Please mail donations to:
Dorothy Kaufmann
Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida
105 North "S" Street
Pensacola, Florida 32505
c/o Lloyd
In case you are wondering who Lloyd is...he is with the State of
Florida's Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) and the Humane Society of the United States National Disaster Animal Response Team (HSUS, NDART).
CONTINUED BELOW:
In the past year their teams have responded around the world to Sri Lanka and Thailand to rescue animals in the aftermath of the recent tsunami as well as all four hurricanes that hit Florida and Alabama last year. They are first line responders, with the ability to reach people before anyone else can. They have the legal authority to do so whereas many groups do not. They have lists of all rehabbers, their locations and other detailed information so they can immediately respond in a disaster.
Since he is in Mississipi right now, he has asked the rehabber in
Pensacola to be a drop off point for him as he does not know of
another physical address any closer.

NEXT, IF YOU LIVE IN WISCONSIN ... contact Matzo, a wildlife rehabber in Wisconsin if you can help. This is from her friend at Chances Horse Rescue:
I am with Chances Horse Rescue,we would like to help all the many hundreds of animals in need, due to hurricane Katrina. If anyone out these has any items for dogs, cats, horses, and you would care to donate these item PLEASE do. We will be putting together boxes of halters, leads, grooming, vet wrap, salves, blankets, you name it...they can use it! Also, bags of beet pulp. or hay cubes/pellets would be helpful, as there is no hay down there anymore. Cash donations will be used to buy supplies.
PLEASE think of these poor animals and how you would feel in a situation like this. A friend has offered to take all item down free of charge on his semi, which will be leaving next Tuesday-Wednesday evening. All the items will be distributed to local rescue workers and humane societies. Let try to show them the community spirit when it comes to our animals from
northern Wisconsin!
PLEASE email me for more info, item may be dropped off at my home, by White Potato Lake, sent, or if not too distant possible pick-up.
Thanks!
