Donna Edwards is running for the Democratic nomination for the fourth district of Maryland. She has what it takes to represent the fourth district, and would be a much better representative than DINO Al Wynn.
Her campaign is just getting started, and the Maryland Primary election is September 16th--which means we have less than 2 months to help Donna get the money and buzz she needs to be successful.
Here's Donna's statement about why she is running:
At every stage in my life I have welcomed challenges and fought for the needs of others. Today, I see a need in Maryland's 4th Congressional District.
We need someone to represent the district who cares deeply about our families, our community, and the direction of our country. I am running to bring a positive change to the 4th District of Maryland.
Some people will ask, why run against an incumbent Democrat in a Democratic district? The answer is simple. Our current representative in Congress consistently votes against the interests of ordinary Americans, casting his lot with Bush and the Republicans on such critical issues as Iraq, the industry lobbyist-written energy bill, and the bankruptcy bill.
My record is one of leadership on these issues. I listen to people, not special interests. And in Congress, I will work tirelessly for the common good.
As you know, for those of us who care deeply about the direction of our country, every Congressional District is important. I am prepared to work with other Members of Congress to make some real, tangible, progress in Washington. I will stand strong and fight for the goals we share for the future of our nation.
I am asking today that you join me in this fight by supporting my candidacy for Congress.
Thank you.
What she doesn't mention is that in the two counties that Al Wynn currently represents, John Kerry got 66 and 82 percent of the vote. This isn't just Good Old Democratic Maryland. The fourth is one of the prettiest blue districts in the country. The fourth should be represented by someone like Paul Wellstone, not somebody like Joe Lieberman.
But Al Wynn voted to prolong Terry and Michael Schiavo's nightmare. Al Wynn voted against network neutrality. He did all of this knowing it wasn't what his constituents wanted (I know I called, and I'm sure I'm not the only one). All along he's claimed to be a Democrat, while refusing to represent our views.
Well, we have a mechanism for removing from office those "Democrats" who are more of a hindrance to our party than a help. Primary challenges allow us to work out our differences before an election and field not only the strongest candidate, but the candidate that best exemplifies our values.
But primary campaigns take money and volunteers just as much as general elections.
So if you've got the time or the money to spare, Donna could really use your help. Visit Donna's Website to get more information about how to donate and volunteer.
