(Update: So I come back four hours later, to find I am NOT on the rec list! What the heck is wrong with you people? Kidding! Seriously I'm surprised this isn't a bigger deal in the liberal blogosphere. When I heard Limbaugh going on about the SWAT team today, something just didn't seem right. It took me 5-10 minutes of googling to figure out the truth. Should it surprise me that the truth never occurred to Rush or Levin or any of the right-wing blogs freaking out about this? And it sure would be nice if the media had cleared it up with a little context wouldn't it, instead of just reporting that Obama was sending in the SWAT teams? Just another example of our lame-stream media, I guess!)
My God these people are lunatics. Idiots, too.
Take a look at the very last link to gaze upon the faces of these SWAT Team evil-doers, including "Pete," "Carol," and "Dave."
Radio talk show host and former Reagan cabinet advisor Mark Levin has slammed President Obama’s bizarre announcement that he will be sending SWAT teams to deal with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, alleging that the response is part of a plan to grease the skids for government takeover and nationalization of the oil industry..... Levin expressed his amazement that the Department of the Interior, which he worked under, even had SWAT teams.

Rush Limbaugh: "So, since they’re sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they’re sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I’m just noting the timing here..... Don’t forget, the original Earth Day, 40 years ago, was inspired by the river in Cleveland catching fire. Forty years later, the day before Earth Day this year, the Gulf is on fire. Coincidence? Jury’s still out. The regime is on the case, soon to tell us what happened."

The Coastal Biodiversity Survey is a large-scale research project conducted by a group from University of California Santa Cruz called the SWAT Team. The Survey was designed to measure diversity and abundance of algal and invertebrate communities living on the rocky intertidal, western coast of temperate North America.

The name SWAT is not an acronym, but a nickname that came along with the idea that a group of researchers was needed to travel along the coast quickly surveying as many sites within a minus tide series as possible....
