In an interview with The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rosenthal, Phil Griffin, MSNBC President, shares his wishes of seeing MSNBC be more like Fox News. But he declared that that he won't be putting any "hard-right shows" on his network. (I wonder why he suspended David Shuster then?)
Really ? With Morning Joe, Mr Phil Griffin, spreading BS on President Obama and democrats every morning, MSNBC is already like Fox News.
In his interview, Griffin praised Roger Ailes, the guy who gave the humanity Rush Limbaugh (I don't think the rest of us thank Ailes for his creature tho). Speaking of Ailes, MSNBC President said that he "changed media" and "everybody does news differently because Roger's changed the world". He also added that a news outlet that stands for something is one that consumers can stand behind and rally around (since Fox News stands for crazy....).
"To be successful in this new age, you've got to create a community", Griffin said. "You've got to have a place where people come. They're like-minded. They share ideas. They want news, but they also get their headlines all day long on the Web, on their BlackBerrys, on their iPhones, on their iPads. It's a different universe, and nobody uses one outlet as their only source."
He went on to point out that opinions are what the public is looking for and that Fox News was leading the charge. "We're talking about the actions and passions of today, which tend to be political," he said. Interesting. "I don't think we have quite the passionate support that Fox does," he said. "Some shows do, but as a network we don't. Our prime time is getting there. But that's what we want to get."
When asked by Rosenthal about the critics that MSNBC faces, mostly from CNN, with their "left-wing" stars i.e Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow or Chris Matthews, Griffin defended his choice. Phil Griffin, also, reminded that "these are not casual observers of news, because those are the tens of millions of people who are watching everything else". He continued by saying that "these are hard-core news junkies who want the latest information and they want the detail. It's a different beast. That why to not stand for something is a recipe for failure, because they want something more."
Despite praising Fox News' playbook, MSNBC President, Phil Griffin, made it clear that he would not "not put on a hardcore conservative news show". Seriously ? Does Phil Griffin watch MSNBC from 6am to 9am ? If Joe Scarborough isn't a hardcore conservative, then I'm the first woman Pope. Griffin acknowledges that the niche MSNBC has carved out for itself in the continental divide of politics and cable commentary tilts toward the blue-state side. "Could we put on a hard-right show? No. It wouldn't fit," he said. "I want flow".
Here some advice for MSNBC, first of all, if you seriously want to challenge Fox News, by becoming their ripost from the Left, start by cancelling Morning Joe and replace it with a morning show starring Lawrence O'Donnell, Norah O'Donnell/Tamron Hall and Donny Deutch. These three will be great response to Fox & Friends' 3 stooges i.e Doocy, Kilmeade and Carlson.
Then, NO MORE LOCK UP during the week-end. MSNBC is a freaking cable news channel not a Prison Channel. Do you really think your viewiers being "locked up" every week-end ? Seriously ? Why can't you make a show starring Gov. Howard Dean and Elliot Spitzer every week-end ? In other news, make news on saturday and sunday.
AND NO MORE PAT BUCHANAN !!!!
