Short commentary, but possibly sobering.
Essentially, it all starts with this:
"The end came swiftly, erupting from the bowels of the earth in a surge of violence that set both the skies and the waters on fire, while the earth itself was choked in ash."

I imagine that the above apocalyptic scenario is, in fact, quite like what the beginning of the end could look like if the following occurs:
- The massive oil spill in the Gulf continues to gush, releasing both oil and gas. Conceivably, the giant bowl that BP is planning to use to contain the "eruption of oil" could serve to trap escaping gasses, allowing them to build, and another accident could result in a fire that refuses to go out. Given the amount of oil and gas beneath, it could burn for years. (NOTE: This is speculation on my part -- I do not have any data to corroborate this as a scenario.)
- If the volcano Katla -- giant angry sister of Eyjafjallajökull -- remains true to form and blows a gasket, the skies would indeed darken...impacting global climate and sending temperatures plummeting while choking off sunlight necessary for crops.
Fire and ice -- both, together. Truly a "hell on earth."
And the disaster made eminently worse by the man-made catastrophe -- proving wrong once and for all the denialist claim that humanity cannot impact global climate, but at what cost...?
