This morning Nick Coleman on Air America Minnesota was speaking about various assistant editors at the St. Paul Pioneer Press that tend to lean to the Right. I read a commentary today in the Pioneer Press highlighting David Strom, president of the Minnesota Taxpayers League.
Here is a quote from David Strom:
"Government has to be there," he added, speaking of "vulnerable" individuals. "Not as the nurturer, that's where I think the left has gone astray, but it must recognize that the nurturing role has to exist.
"On the left, they believe that the proper role for government should be guided by love. That's a mistake. If you want to express love in community affairs, you have to do it yourself. You can't do it by simply writing a check to government and expect some vast bureaucracy to do it."
Love? This is our crime?

Oh, my GOD! We have decided that the people, animals, and the planet are more important than money. This is what is wrong with the left in Mr. Strom. If this is our crime, I am thrilled.
If he has hopes that charities and churches are going to solve the social issues in this country, he is insane. The charities and churches have not solved the problmes so far. Are they going to provide healthcare for our families? NO.
If he wants to critize us for being the party of love, I say we embrace the frame. Love is a good thing. We should show that the Democratic Party is the party that cares about people. We should shout it at the top of our lungs.
Strom's Minnesota Taxpayers League is all about lowering taxes. It is a strategy of firing up the ideologically charged rhetoric from rightist mouthpieces like the Center for the American Experiment and the Minnesota Taxpayers League that lets Governor, Tim Pawlenty, act like the "voice of reason" while covertly attempting to implement the wishes of those who fund them.
We can be the party that cares about people. They can be the party that cares about money. Pure and simple.
