Early in his Senate career, Harry Reid had a lot of interesting ideas. Here's one of them.
I wasn't really sure what to make of this. This was obviously taped sometime during the late 80s or even early 90s (judging from the interviewer's hairstyle). Harry Reid is making a point about how taxation in the United States is voluntary. Watch:
Now, I'm from another country that's not Europe, but I would think even in European countries if you don't pay your taxes, and you deliberately intend not to pay them. That's called tax evasion; that's breaking the law. We have payroll taxes that are automatically deducted from our paycheques, but once a year we sit down with our accountant and go over what we owe the government. People may not like it, but it's way better than spending time in jail.
The irony is Harry Reid is preparing to attack his Republican opponent, Sharron Angle, for having crazy ideas. Teabaggers may not like Harry Reid or paying taxes, but I think even they filed all their papers with the IRS before going out to protest during Tax Day.
