First batch coming in 10 minutes. How exciting!
Quite bizarre, actually. We all know Labour will win, so there's no feeling of dread that the evil guys will take home the trophy. The drama is over Blair's parliamentary majority. Over 100, he's safe and home free. Under 100, and he's got problems as rebel MPs will have greater influence in the government.
Under 100 will also likely indicate a strong night from the Lib Dems and indication that the war had a bigger effect on the election than opinion polls originally indicated. The revelations of this past weekend and the death of a British soldier Sunday night thrust Iraq into the national debate at a most inoppurtune time for Labour.
Update: The exit poll is out, and it predicts a Labour majority of 66 seats. Brutal results for Blair. And it predicts a mere 2 seat gain for the Lib Dems.
Percentage of vote
37 Labour (40.7 in 2001)
33 Conservatives (31.7 in 2001)
22 Liberal Democrats (18.3 in 2001)
This is the exit poll. Seat by seat results will be streaming in over the night.
