Thank you for all of the support I've received from members of this community. I have enjoyed visiting and discussing the issues that matter in my bid to become the first African-American female member of Congress from the State of Alabama.
Over the past week, we've received the endorsements of two top educational unions in our state- The American Federation of Teachers, Local 2143 and the Alabama Education Association - an affiliate of the of the 3.2 million member, National Education Association (NEA) - the nation's largest professional employee organization.
I believe these endorsements show our strength on educational issues and why we are the best candidate in the July 13th runoff. I'm honored to have been endorsed by both organizations and their desire to work with us in providing a better future for the schools, classrooms, teachers and students of the 7th Congressional District.
I also believe that these endorsements show my commitment to labor and working people. These organizations represent the people that work so hard, with such low pay, to provide opportunities for our youth. These organizations have placed their trust in me and my campaign and I am truly humbled.
As we move forward in this campaign over the next month, I ask that you consider taking an interest in our race. We have the opportunity to make a substantial difference in this district. Since the primary election on June 1, we have continue to pound the pavement and work hard to communicate with the constituents in this very diverse district. This seat needs someone who will be a fighter for the constituents who have been overlooked in the past. This district has unemployment rates that are too high, lacks proper infrastructure and needs better access to quality health care.
Today more than ever, our schools and our teachers also need a candidate who will stand by them and be ‘On their Side'. I have been and will remain the candidate who stands up for working people not the interests of big business or Wall Street. These organizations and the people have stood up for me because I have stood up for them in my role as a elected official.
We need someone in this seat who can go take on Washington. I'm that person because I'm committed, strong and willing to make that sacrifice. I will listen to the concerns of all the voters in my district.
Thank you for all of the contributions we have received on our Grassroots for Smoot Act Blue Page. We understand that times are tight, but we will not let you down. If you can donate $10 or $20.10 we will be most appreciative.
