Haven't seen an 'open thread' and so am doing just a quick diary because I wanted to share some GOOD news.
Doug Price called me not too long ago from Atlanta and told me about his trip with supplies to Slidell.
He had contacted me some time ago and asked me where to go and what should he take...of course I was all over that!
He said that Bill Percy, the principal of Slidell High School is pretty overwhelmed with what he will be dealing with when school begins tomorrow. Something like over 300 students (1900 go to Slidell I believe) are homeless and many others are questionable. 39 of his teachers are homeless (approx 140 teachers) and they need so much.
Doug will be doing a diary, probably tomorrow to share his experiences and things he feels are ESSENTIAL to assist these people, so please look for it and recommend it...it will be without a doubt a stunning portrayal of his visit and what he experienced.
I do believe he is as committed as I am to help the people of Old Slidell and the schools.
Also, I received a lovely email from Bill Percy saying he was overwhelmed by the generosity of those helping them.
Olga and Maxine (the 9th grade teacher at Slidell) just got off the phone with me and they said that words cannot express what they feel toward me helping them.
They said that as they unloaded the supplies that Doug brought down, that people were almost FIGHTING for them (good job Doug!)...
So for those that want a place to send things and help...we've picked a great neighborhood and some awesome schools!!!
In Peace and thank you.
