President Obama's birthday is coming up and OFA is passing around a birthday card for him. You can sign it and leave a personal message. Supposedly he'll read all of these messages so I took it upon myself to tell him happy birthday, of course, but to also remind him of his promises on DADT and other issues.
Happy Birthday!
Now end DADT discharges immediately via executive order and give Dan Choi his job back.
It's simple enough and it's way past time that he gets this messages. OFA says that this card is from Michelle Obama so even if he doesn't actually read all the messages, maybe she will. Bill O'Reilly is now calling for the President to end discharges with an executive order. I do not trust his motives whatsoever, but how long will President Obama allow O'Reilly to use this to attack him, by saying he's "not doing enough"?
It's time for us to keep making our voices heard and it's time for the White House to end these discharges. Initially, this was supposed to be a "more humane" approach but it is still not working out that way. And with the ridiculous survey written the way it is, if you ask me it's even less of a humane approach.
The least we deserve is a moratorium on discharges.
I'm an extremist on this issue, I admit. You know what I actually want to happen? I want everyone to throw their surveys away and I want the Pentagon to get their money back and distribute it to those who have been discharged for reparations. I want a public shaming of our government for the way they've handled all of this.
So, yeah, I think a moratorium on discharges is a pretty simple idea.
I would suggest being firm but polite in our messages. It will already annoy them enough, there's no need to send rude thoughts in the birthday cards. If enough of us send them, maybe they simply won't have time to go through them all and get rid of the messages they don't like.
So who's with me? Who will ask President Obama to end DADT discharges right now with an executive order and stop this cruel treatment of our men and women serving in uniform?
