As if David Vitter didn't already have a big enough problem explaining why he kept aide Brent Furer on his staff for two years after learning that Furer had stabbed an ex-girlfriend, we're now learning that domestic violence was among the issues in Furer's portfolio. WWLTV:
Beth Meeks, the executive director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, said when she met with Furer in Washington two weeks prior to him resigning, Vitter's office portrayed Furer as the point man on women's issues.
ABC News reports the same information, noting that the meeting between Meeks and Furer focused on domestic violence legislation:
Beth Meeks, the executive director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence said in an interview Tuesday that she had been in Washington in June – just before news of the incident went public – and that Vitter had assigned Furer to meet with her to discuss the senator's views on domestic violence legislation. She said she was advised the Furer was the senator's point man on women's issues.
Despite the meeting between Meeks and Furer on domestic violence issues, Vitter flatly denies that Furer was responsible for women's issues.
