Workers are becoming fed up with the demands made by employers to work harder and longer for less pay. The consequence of the recession has been to make the U.S. work force one of the most productive in years, but frightened workers hanging onto a job in a desperate job market cannot said to be productive in a sustainable way. At some point, the pressure builds until the idea of quitting seems more reasonable than sticking around for the daily abuse.
Mad as helll
The Daily Beast is giving former flight attendant Steven Slater props for the "Best Walk Off Ever," in an Aug. 10, 2010, post.
Slater was directing a passenger on a domestic flight to remain in his seat until the airplane came to a stop, but the woman protested, and her bag from an overhead carrier fell on Slater's head. During the confrontation, the man allegedly called Slater a "m_____ f_____."
Not gonna take it anymore
Slater went to the front of the plan, announced he had been a flight attended for more than 20 years, dropped an F bomb on the unruly passenger and then achieved job walk off super stardom.
After announcing he quit over the loudspeaker, Slater deployed the emergency inflatable slides usually used to expedite the exit of passengers during a crash situation. Grabbing two beers, Slater jumped onto the slides and glided into history.
A Slater Salute to all who say to an abusive workplace, "Take this Job and Shove it."
