We have all heard the pronouncements by various agencies and other Pollyannas about the state of the fisheries in the Gulf.
It has already been over a week since BP's chief operating officer pledged on live TV that he would eat it himself AND feed it to his family.
BP executive 'absolutely' would eat Gulf seafood
Doug Suttles's vote of confidence came two days after Louisiana state authorities reopened 2,400 square miles (6,200 square kilometers) of coastal waters for fishing, with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) saying Gulf seafood harvested from such open areas is safe for human consumption.
There is one and only one way to assure the masses-
BP's Doug Suttles must feed his family Gulf fish on camera.
It's time for him to eat the oiled seafood, or eat crow.
{NOTE: This is one of those diaries based upon an earlier comment. After a few days of ruminating, and inspired by another diary in a similar vain earlier today, I have succumbed to the urge to expand into a diary.}
So have you heard about the testing being done by the NOAA?
Yeah, they are harvesting all types of seafood from the Gulf, tracking where it came from, and then sampling the "aroma".
There is a problem with it, though:
Out of 2500 samples since late April, exactly 1 sample so far has had the "stink of oil".
See video about the sniff test HERE.
One sample?
So how can that be?
Is it truly possible?
At least one reporter thought to ask a BP exec the same type of question. They asked Doug Suttles if he felt the fish were safe to eat.

Transcript:
QUESTION: Mr. Suttles, just to follow up on the dispersant issue, as you know just the last several days Louisiana has opened its coastline to commercial fishing. I'm just curious, would you eat the seafood coming out of the Gulf of Mexico given the volume of oil and volume of dispersants in the Gulf of Mexico? Would you allow your loved ones to eat seafood coming out of there?
SUTTLES: I absolutely would. There's been a tremendous amount of testing done by NOAA and the state agencies and the FDA and others. They're not going to open these waters to either sport fishing or commercial fishing if it's not safe to eat the fish. I have a lot of confidence in those agencies and I trust their agencies and I would eat their food, the seafood out of the Gulf here and I would feed it to my family.
Who here has not read Green Eggs and Ham?
Saying "I would" is not the same as "I have".
And Mr. Suttles is still a few steps away from that, I suspect.
Put your money where your mouth is, Mr. Suttles.

Mr. Suttles gave a press conference this weekend where he downplayed the dangers of the dispersants that have been poured into the Gulf and laid it squarely back on the feet of our government for allowing them to poison the waters. He also claimed that he'd eat the seafood coming out of the Gulf and thinks it's safe. I'd like to personally see for myself someone catch some fish from those waters full of chemicals and watch him eat it and feed it to his children if that's true.
Of course, we are not alone in this desire; not by a long shot.
In fact, The Simpsons did it decades ago. Marge was so bold as to make it happen in a clandestine way:
On the night before the election, Smithers and his other advisors suggest that Burns have dinner at the Simpsons' house as an opportunity to put Burns "over the top". To everyone's surprise, Marge serves Blinky, the three-eyed fish that Bart caught, for dinner. Mr. Burns tries to act as if it doesn't bother him, but is not able to keep from spitting it out. The cameras flash as the bite flies through the air, but the press is gone and his gubernatorial campaign is over by the time the chunk hits the floor.
