On Monday of this week, the DSCC sent out another fundraising email under the letterhead of Sen. Russ Feingold, which began:
Dear [sardonyx],
Everywhere I go, I hear the same thing. From Wisconsin to Texas, from California to Alabama, I hear from people who want the Democrats to stand up and speak out.
We hear you loud and clear.
It arrived just as I was reading about the gutless 12-3 vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee to approve General Hayden to be head of the CIA. My immediate response is below the cut:
Dear Russ,
This letter arrived while I was listening to the news that General Michael Hayden, who supervised illegal NSA spying on American citizens, has been approved 12 to 3 by the Senate Intelligence Committee. Four of seven Democrats on that committee -- a majority -- have not heard us loud and clear.
Your letter, alas, was proved false upon arrival: A majority of Democrats on this Senate committee are deaf.
I then explained why individual candidates, not the DSCC, would be getting my money.
And the proof of deafness keeps piling in. Friday's shameful floor vote to approve Hayden -- only 14 Democratic no votes -- was compounded by the failure to filibuster the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the D.C. Circuit. Kavanaugh will now be paid a six-figure salary for the rest of his life -- despite his manifest lack of qualifications and extreme conservative ideology -- because five Democratic Senators (presumably) left before the senate had adjourned for the Memorial Day holiday, and because the Senate Democrats did not stand up and speak out. They have again failed the American people.
