I need some help - I need Military Families for McAdams to join me on Facebook.
That's right. During the 2008 election, I worked with a great bunch of volunteers. They were military wives, moms and dads, husbands, and everybody else who spoke out about supporting then candidate Obama. People respect our military more than they respect our politicians! When those related to active duty members can speak out about their own choices (yes, it's very legal!), we can make a HUGE difference.
Help me spread the word so that more military families can jump on board.
This is my first foray into Facebook politics - I would like to recruit 100 members to start. I figured I should start small and work from there. As of this morning, I am 1 member. Myself :)
But I think once this spreads, we can have a huge impact. Alaska has 2 major bases near Fairbanks, Eielson AFB and Ft. Wainwright, as well as 2 major bases near Anchorage, Elmendorf AFB and Ft. Richardson. There are untold pockets of military in little places all over. I especially remember Ft. Greeley during my time working with the Farthest North Girl Scout Council in Fairbanks. And Alaska is home to many, many retirees and veterans, reserve and guard, and military civilian employees.
My hope is to get those in-state more active and those out-of-state requesting absentee ballots.
Here's my first post:
Those of you who are not registered to vote in Alaska and would like an absentee ballot, the deadline is fast approaching - 30 days before election day would make October 1 (a Friday) the last day to register to vote AND receive your absentee ballot!

And military family members can write Letters to the Editor like this one I submitted to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner:
As a military wife currently living out of state, I was happy to see the News-Miner covering the candidates of the upcoming US Senate election.
I'm tired of career politicians and I'm tired of Tea Party anger (we just moved out of Texas). I believe that government can provide solutions to our problems, and that it needs to be run in a responsible manner. Haven't seen many Republicans trying to fix anything lately... only trying to bring down the system.
I will be sending in my absentee ballot marked McAdams.
Please keep articles about the upcoming election coming... I have other decisions to make and your paper helps bring the info I need from far away.
So please spread the word and let others know - Military Families for McAdams
Support can also be offered by donating to McAdam'sActBlue page.
