Michigan assistant attorney general Andrew Shirvell has way too much time on his hands. For half a year, he's spent his off-hours attacking the student body president at the University of Michigan. The reason? He's gay.
Using the online moniker "Concerned Michigan Alumnus," Shirvell launched his blog in late April.
"Welcome to 'Chris Armstrong Watch,'" Shirvell wrote in his inaugural blog post. "This is a site for concerned University of Michigan alumni, students, and others who oppose the recent election of Chris Armstrong -- a RADICAL HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVIST, RACIST, ELITIST, & LIAR -- as the new head of student government."
Some of the allegations Shirvell makes are pretty lurid, and have sparked calls for him to be fired. Disgusting as they are, that itself isn't a fireable offense, since he does it away from work. However, Shirvell has gone as far as to videotape Armstrong at night--at his house. For that reason, his boss, Mike Cox, should show some leadership and fire him.
Anderson Cooper had Cox on last night, and Cox fell all over himself to distance himself from Shirvell while saying he won't be fired for now.
Um, Mr. Attorney General? You're waiting for Armstrong to file legal action before moving on Shirvell? He already crossed a line by videotaping Armstrong at night. That's not speech. That's harassment. And the fact Shirvell still has a job says a lot about who you are.
I just popped over to Rick Snyder's Website, hoping he'd show some leadership and condemn this pigweed. Nothing. Sorry, but regardless of where you stand on LGBT rights, this is flat-out unacceptable.
Update: Anderson had Shirvell on the night before. By request, full interview below:
