Democrats right now are in a battle to frame the debate on healthcare repeal. To me there are soo many ways for us to put republicans on the defensive and we haven't even scratched the surface. There are many points of emphasis that we can and should pursue and I'd like to explore a few.
Human costs- republicans are appealing to the job economic business friendly side of the argument which is why they named the repeal effort job killing health care law. We need to call them on their crap and say this repeal effort is a human killing repeal effort. They want to repeal health care start from scratch and pass it in what 2 years? Ha not happening. It took a year and a half for us to get it through with two majorities and the president they have the house that's it. Now I know you all might say republicans will call it outrageous that we say that they want people to die but they've been saying that shit for two years. Death panels and pulling the plug on grandmothers?
Time line- With republicans advocating repeal of healthcare they are essentially wanting this effort to consume their time for the next two years. We can make arguments on the number of people who have passed since the repeal of healthcare and passage of a new plan. How soon can republicans repeal and implement a new healthcare plan that cuts costs and covers more people?
Business interests vs human interests
Republicans are claiming that the 1099 form is costing businesses money. So we should counter with it that portion is eliminated how many pot people will receive coverage and how many jobs will that create?
Attack republicans whose states ate suffering from health issues- the vast majority of red states have some of the most unhealthy people in America. The leading states in obesity and health issues are red states. We need to go after them hard. Ga MS SC TN etc. How many people would lose coverage in their states if this is repealed and pre-2009 healthcare is back?
Re-active care- republicans love the ER talkingpoint. We counter with re-active care. Republicans don't want you to have the care that prevents an illness they want you to get care once you have the illness and its too late. My analogy is simple. Preventative care is brushing your teeth to keep from getting cavities or getting your tire and oil changed before you get a flat or your engine breaks down. Republicans are saying that we don't need to prevent things we need to react to things. Let's get help once things are bad, let's treat that heart condition after you have a heart attack.
These are just a few of my ideas for a dem reaction.
