And they are not releasing it all at once because the nation is essentially a powder keg ready to blow right now. I think they need to handle this whole case very carefully.
I think they already know that he is in fact a right wing nutball who was agitated and set off by the right wing politicians and "pundit" gas bags pretty much as we all suspect. We've seen clues of this in Sherrif Dupnik's comments (and let's face it, he's in a position to know). There are other clues as well, such as his rants on gold and silver backed currency, his general rants about hating gov't etc.
I have to say I somewhat agree with a careful approach in letting this information out. One thing that is the hallmark of these nuts on the Right is that they have no shame and we're seeing evidence of this in their reaction to having the fingers pointed at them. Are they contrite? Are they joining the calls for toning down the rhetoric? No. In fact, they are doubling down, digging in and declaring themselves the victims. This is typical for this type of mindset and therein lies the danger. They will stoke the fires and feelings of imminent persecution that are the fingers on the trigger that set off these nuts.
If too much is released too soon and it's obvious what a right wing nut he is, the rightwing will feel besieged. They will feel that the gov't IS coming after them NOW and that they have no choice to fight back. It could set off even MORE of these types of fringe, "lone wolf" nutbags who feel their persecution is IMMINENT.
This type of thing has to be handled carefully. There are more of these nuts out there right on the edge and their feelings of paranoia, persecution and rage are just barely being contained. Their puppet masters like Palin and Beck will not reign in the rhetoric, so it's up to the adults in the room to try to cool matters down.
Of course, then again, I could be totally wrong.
