It looks like I get to bring out THIS cartoon again because not even the murder of a 9 - year - old girl escapes the wrath of the Westboro Baptist "Church." *&^%$#@!
I know we're supposed to be toning down the rhetoric, so I'm done commenting on these "people."
Today's "this day in history" item should appeal to the innards of baseball fans - Hi Keith!! :D On this date in 1973, owners of American League baseball teams voted to adopt the designated-hitter rule; apparently, pitchers can't be bothered with hitting. Damn dumb rule...
Let's move onto SPARK for today! Should you be in the unfortunate position to be in a business in the process of being robbed, take heart! Maybe, your robber will have good manners! :D Or, maybe, said robber just sneezed into his/her hand, and you're gonna get whatever ailment s(he) has.
Revisionist historians are not going to be real happy - AGAIN. Yea, the truth hurts, don't it? Speaking of truth hurting...
In medical news, file this tidbit under EEEEeeeeWWWWWwwwwwww! But, don't forget we also have the best health care in the world - no death panels, rationing, or nothin'.
Finally, this woman saw way way WAY too many episodes of South Park - or at least one episode in particular.
Let's Countdown...
#5 "Pima Cty Sheriff’s Dept: New Note Found at Loughner Home" AKA "Recovery & Reaction" AKA "Preventing the Worst" AKA "Sensible Gun Control" - Wow, Jared Loughner’s father saw his son, Saturday morning, take a black bag from their house. After a confrontation about the bag, his father chased him into the desert. On the good news front, Rep. Giffords is breathing on her own, and the amount of sedation being used is being decreased.
Her neurosurgeon is tickled pink she looks as good as she does! :D Rep. Peter King wants federal legislation that bars anyone from carrying weapons within a thousand feet of Congress critters & other government employees. Huh, I guess those who aren’t in Congress are on our own. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy is going to try to introduce legislation to curtail the mega – magazines Mr. Loughner used on Saturday. Good luck with that, honey; too many Congress critters are in the pocket of the NRA. Just how is Rep. King’s proposed legislation going to work? Are law enforcement officials going to be on site at every event to search people? What about all those carry & conceal laws in various states? Some "Show Me Your Papers State" state legislators want college professors to be packing heat even if they don’t have a permit?! OK, this subject is very touchy for me; I’ll try to keep calm. Reps. Heath Schuler & Jason Chavetz want EVERYONE to be able to pack heat.
Stay calm, CityLightsLover; stay calm. The Sergeant at Arms isn’t crazy about that idea; introducing more guns to the population isn’t the answer. Well, he’s been a cop for over 40 years. What the spark does he know? The sale of the type of gun used Saturday has gone up, and Rep. Joe "You Lie!" Wilson is gonna get a gun especially for him.
If he had any class, which I know he doesn’t, but if he did, he’d say no. Rep. McCarthy is talking about her proposed legislation to reduce the number of large - capacity clips. She’s surprised at the blowback she’s getting? Honey, you haven’t spent much time around the NRA, have you. Gun people DO NOT want their guns messed with. My Dad is a "gun person," so I know of what I speak. Eugene Robinson’s here tonight, too. Keith asked about what it would take for the soulless money – grubbing amoral NRA to accept tougher gun legislation. It would take a whole lot more carnage than what we saw on Saturday or at Columbine High School or at Virginia Tech; lots of Caucasian women & children would probably have to die, too. No Keith, the "absurdity level" doesn’t mean a damn thing; Keith’s obviously not spent a lot of time around gun people.
Background checks really need to be ramped up, too; states need to get on the ball to update their records.
#4 "Silent Sarah" AKA "Palin’s Silence" AKA "Bully’s Pulpit" - With all respects to Keith, I wouldn’t call what Tim Pawlenty did a "calling out." $aint $arah from Wasilla was probably told by "her people" to lay low for a bit – as difficult as that is to fathom. And, no, Keith, she won’t be renouncing anything she’s said or done. Again,
It’s not a device I would’ve chosen to do
is NOT a calling out. A calling out would be "$arah, you are a willfully ignorant twisted narcissistic amoral ‘witch’ who should have her kids taken away from her."
THAT is a calling out. Howard Fineman gets $aint $arah from Wasilla duty. Man, I’m just answering a bunch of Keith ‘s questions tonight; he asked Howard why it’s so damn difficult for "that woman" to express regret or anything of the kind over what she’s said or done in the past to contribute to the atmosphere of violence in our political discourse. See MY call out above; she thinks she can do no wrong & surrounds herself with people who TELL HER she can do no wrong. Howard’s been listening to Boss Limbaugh lately? AUGH! Poor man!
** Hey! Keith got into my diary draft AGAIN! How on earth could there be any other way he would’ve heard about the Westboro plans?! It’s not like he’s in the news business or anything. ;D The "Show Me Your Papers State" state legislators got together & passed legislation to keep the Westboro peeps away? Well, good on them! BUT, said Westboro peeps will seek an injunction or some sort of stop – gap measure. I KNOW how Marjorie Phelps thinks; I read the transcript of the SCOTUS case, remember? This situation is very VERY similar to the case brought to SCOTUS. **
#3 "Obama’s Tucson Speech" - President Obama will speak at the memorial service for the victims of Saturday’s act of domestic terrorism. The "usual suspects" are already critiquing the poor guy’s speech before he’s given the mother. Jonathan Alter is in studio to talk about the speech tomorrow. Boss Limbaugh & his acolytes want President Obama to fail tomorrow; gee, that sounds familiar. Jonathan thinks President Obama might have a problem with eloquence? Uh, I doubt that!
#2 "Not Obama’s Katrina" - The Deepwater Horizon Commission report is out. The report calls for a new safety agency. Big oil will just LOVE that! BP/BS had a safety director, too, and he did a whole lot of good – NOT! The Obama administration acted effectively after a "slow start."
#1 "AZ Transplant Update" - OK, how sad & sick is it that FDR’s great granddaughter needs Medicaid – type help? Governor Brewer, again, refused to answer a reporter’s question about restoring funds to the transplant aid.
One woman is considering a move out of state to save her own life! Rep. Giffords just in the last month begged Governor Brewer to restore the funds. Lindsay Luke needs a heart transplant because of a genetic heart condition. Restricting HCR could also spell trouble. Nina Roosevelt Gibson is her Mom & talked the impact of HCR constriction. Can y’all just imagine what Eleanor Roosevelt would’ve thought about the death panel going on?! Maybe, the spirit of Mrs. Roosevelt can haunt Governor Brewer!
