Tomorrow the House will take up a resolution [pdf] condemning Saturday's shooting in Arizona, and honoring the victims, recognizing them in detail and offering condolences to their families.
The resolution also “reaffirms the bedrock principle of American democracy and representative government, which is memorialized in the First Amendment,” and mentions that Giffords herself read that amendment on Jan. 6, when the lower chamber read the Constitution on the floor.
It is a product of a few days of bipartisan work — Democrats and Republicans both had input into the resolution.
It also recognizes, in name, Daniel Hernandez, the intern who helped Giffords right after the shooting — in addition to several others who “helped apprehend the gunman and assist the injured., thereby risking their lives for the safety of others, and should be commended for their bravery.”
